The "Real Talk" You Should Be Having With Yourself
Stop Worrying About Everyone Else and Focus on Your Growth
Let’s Start With Some “Real Talk” For Founders & Marketers
As digital marketers, we all travel in similar circles, have many common connections and hear some of the same things over and over again…
“I’m CRUSHING it…” (no, they’re not)
“I’ve got a 6.0 ROAS!” (but NOT at meaningful scale)
“Every promo I run is gold” (maybe they only ran one?)
The reality?
Most of them have the same struggles you do. Some of them are in even worse shape…
Taking out PayPal loans to make payroll…
Having Facebook ads shut down monthly because their ad account bill is past due…
Or worse, they’ve got tax bills, complaints and lawsuits that are keeping them up at night.
Let’s face it — running an online business is HARD.
If it were easy, everyone would be a online millionaire.
But that doesn’t mean it needs to be as difficult as you’re probably making it.
Start Focusing on the Things YOU Can Control
We’ll admit it, we keep an eye on other marketers and competitors too.
What promos are they running? Why type of funnel? How much did they just make?
And look, some marketers ARE attracting massive audiences and generating millions (or even tens of millions) in sales.
But not everyone is Tony Robbins and has access to an audience built over DECADES and a nearly unlimited budget for acquiring leads.
And not everyone can follow the same strategies Alex Hormozi talks about in his books — again, built off years of list building and nurturing.
So just STOP worrying about what others are doing and what results they claim to be getting…
And instead, start focusing on the growth strategies YOU can control:
Take a laser-focused look at your email and audience data so you can stop focusing on vanity metrics and really understand your active audience
Stop “spray and pray” marketing and start thinking about the pace and type of campaigns you run week to week and month to month. Trust us, simply running a webinar every 2 weeks is going to burn out a list sooner than you think.
Re-evaluate all of your customer avatars — especially if you’ve never done it before. What’s changed in their lives? Does the economy have them in a different mindset? Customer personalities are dynamic — your avatars should be too.
Make an honest assessment of all your marketing data. Do you really understand every bit of it and where you should be cutting or increasing spending?
Are you running certain types of campaigns simply because it’s working for others? Take a closer look at why that campaign might be working for them and if it really makes sense for you.
Bottom line, just because one of your competitors is doing something, doesn’t mean it’s working the way they say it is…
Or that it’s the right thing for your company.
And if you’re not really sure, then it might be time for a deeper dive into your marketing strategy from yourself, your team, or an external consultant with a fresh perspective.
That’s all for today — we’ll be diving deeper into all of the above topics and much more in the months ahead.
